Northern Territory Police have recovered a submerged vehicle from a waterway in Dundee Downs this afternoon.

The body of an adult male was found in the vehicle.

Police are working to formally identify the deceased and in contact with family of the person believed to have died.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brendan Lindner said, “This was a difficult recovery, and made more complicated due to the presence of saltwater crocodiles - a number of which were destroyed to ensure safety of those involved in the recovery operation."

The vehicle sustained significant damage in the crash immediately prior to entering the water.

The surviving occupant of the vehicle remains in hospital and is not believed to have suffered any serious physical injuries.
