Emergency services are currently responding to a fatal crash near Pine Creek that occurred this afternoon.
Around 4:15pm, the Joint Emergency Services Communication Centre received reports of a collision between a truck and sedan on the Stuart Highway, around 12km south of Pine Creek.
Northern Territory Police, Northern Territory Fire and Rescue Service and St John Ambulance have all deployed to the scene. The Department of Infrastructure Planning and Logistics is coordinating a road closure along the Stuart Highway in the vicinity of the crash. It is not known at this stage when the Stuart Highway will re-open.
Detectives from the Major Crash Investigation Unit are currently travelling to the scene to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Superintendent Tanya Mace said “This is a tragic incident and we have multiple agencies responding. Our thoughts are with everyone involved.
“We are urging anyone planning on travelling on the Stuart Highway between Pine Creek and Katherine to reconsider their plans and avoid the area completely as the highway may be shut for some time.
