Strike Force Trident and the Dog Operations Unit arrested a man in Alawa yesterday after a pursuit through the area.
Police observed the man, who had several warrants issued for his arrest, at a liquor store in Jingili around 3pm and attempted to apprehend him on Rothdale Road. A pursuit continued through Moil and Jingili before it was terminated for safety reasons.
Senior Sergeant Kaye Pemberton said, “After stalling the vehicle he was driving, the offender fled on foot. A foot pursuit commenced through Alawa, with the offender scaling several fences, and the Dog Operations Unit deployed patrol dog Wedge to track him.
“The man was tracked to a community garden where he surrendered to police without incident. At Palmerston Watch House he tested positive for cannabis, methamphetamines and amphetamines.”
The 23-year-old was later charged with:
- Breach of bail
- Drive a motor vehicle while unlicensed
- Drive under the influence of dangerous drug
- Drive manner dangerous during pursuit
- Possess Schedule 1 less than traffickable quantity
He was remanded to appear in Darwin Local Court today.
