Detectives from the Major Crash Investigation Unit arrested a 17-year-old male late last night following a hit and run incident in Berrimah earlier in the evening.
Emergency services were alerted to an injured woman lying on Stuart Highway at 7:45pm. All services responded and the inbound lanes of the highway were closed for several hours.
The injured woman was conveyed to hospital in a critical condition.
Detective Sergeant Corey Borton said, “Witnesses were able to provide police details of a vehicle of interest, which was later located at an address in Jingili. The vehicle had damage consistent with the crash and a 17-year-old learner driver was arrested at the scene.”
He is in police custody and will be charged later today.
“Anyone who is involved in a crash is required by law to stop and render assistance. Thank you to the other motorists who did the right thing; through your information we were able to make a swift arrest.”
