Northern Territory Police are investigating the death of a pedestrian in Winnellie overnight.
Shortly before 10pm, police received a report from a passing motorist that a man had been hit by a car.
Emergency Services were first on scene and conducted CPR on the man, however he died as a result of his injuries.
The driver remained at the scene until police arrival and later returned negative results to roadside tests for alcohol and drugs.
Detective Senior Sergeant Brendan Lindner said, “Major Crash detectives worked through the night to record the scene, interview witnesses and investigate the circumstances of the crash.”
“The identity of the deceased man is not yet known and forensic procedures are underway today to identify him so we can notify his family.
“Detectives will investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash. While it’s too early in the investigation to determine how and why the crash occurred, the driver fulfilled his lawful obligation to immediately stop and help the pedestrian.”
Investigations are continuing.
