UPDATE: Hit and run - Darwin City

Northern Territory Police have arrested and charged a 52-year-old man in relation to the hit and run crash in Darwin on Tuesday.

A 51-year-old female remains in a critical and unstable condition in Royal Darwin Hospital.

Detectives located the vehicle yesterday afternoon in the northern suburbs.  Two search warrants were executed to seize the vehicle and other property belonging to the man.  The vehicle and other items will be subject to forensic analysis.

Major Crash detectives have interviewed the man in custody.  He has been charged with hit & run causing serious harm.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brendan Lindner, “If you hit someone on the road, you are obliged by law to stop and report it as soon as possible.  This man didn’t and he’s been charged accordingly.

“Fleeing from a crash scene after hitting someone is an exercise in futility.  We have shown time and again, that such offenders will be identified and brought before court.

“We would like to thank the public for assisting the investigation.  The information provided has again proven crucial in allowing us to quickly identify the driver.”

The man has been remanded to appear in the Darwin Local Court today.
