Central Australian Football League Finals Disturbances

Police

Northern Territory Police are disappointed that multiple disturbances at Traeger Park tarnished the CAFL finals over the weekend.

The finals were held on Sunday over three games, notable incidents included:

  • Multiple police units requiring diversion to Traeger Park
  • 5 arrests for anti-social behaviour
  • A number of weapons seized in the main car park
  • 2 protective custody apprehensions
  • Numerous unacceptable disturbances managed by police and security over a 2 hour period.

Superintendent Anthony Deutrom said, “It is very unfortunate that a small cohort of individuals behaved in a poor manner during the course of the CAFL finals. NT Police are working closely with CAFL to ensure those responsible are identified.

“Police will work with the CAFL and strongly support any disciplinary action (including suspensions if applicable) where any of the teams players, officials or spectators participated in any of the disturbances. This will be on top of action taken by police.

“NT Police will not tolerate behaviour that impacts public safety and we will assist in any ongoing CAFL review. We have agreed to be involved next year, to ensure appropriate planning and mitigation strategies are built into the season to prevent a repeat of Sunday’s unfortunate incidents. ”
