Northern Territory Police are calling for witnesses following an aggravated assault in Darwin City overnight.

At around 11pm, two men were engaged in an argument on Cavenagh Street when a 30-year-old man was allegedly assaulted.

Police and St John Ambulance located the victim near a bank on Smith Street. He was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital suffering a significant injury.  

Serious Crime detectives continue to investigate the matter.
