Northern Territory Police have issued two infringement notices for failing to abide by the Chief Health Officer Directions issued under section 56 of the Public and Environmental Health Act 2011.
A 33-year-old woman and a 36-year-old man recently returned to their community in the MacDonnell region from South Australia, intentionally bypassing biosecurity control checkpoints to avoid mandatory quarantine.
The infringement penalty for an individual is $1,099 and $5,495 for a business.
NT Police and Environmental Health Officers continue to undertake compliance activities and will identify anyone attempting to avoid checkpoints.
12,919 compliance checks have now been completed and 62 fines issued.
