Call for information - Indecent behaviour - Alice Springs

Police

Northern Territory Police are calling for assistance to identify a man in relation to an alleged indecent behaviour incident in Alice Springs late yesterday.

Around 3:40pm an unknown man is alleged to have exposed himself to a child walking in an alley near Burke Street in East Side.

The male is described as being of Indigenous appearance, possible around 30-years-old, and was wearing a grey shirt and grey shorts and a hat at the time of the incident.

Southern Investigations Unit Detective Senior Sergeant Megan Blackwell said this kind of behaviour will not be tolerated.

“We are doing everything we can to identify and locate this man. We need assistance from the public and ask anyone who may have been in the Burke Street area around this time and have information which may assist us, to contact us,” said Det Snr Sgt Blackwell

Detectives from the Southern Investigations Unit are yet to rule out whether this incident is related to a separate indecent behaviour incident which occurred in the East Side area earlier this month.

Detective Senior Sergeant Megan Blackwell urged anyone who found themselves to be a victim of indecent behaviour to contact police.

““In some instances witnesses or victims are unsure as to how to proceed in reporting this kind of behaviour,” said Det Snr Sgt Blackwell

“If you or someone you know witnesses or is subjected to indecent behaviour we urge you to report it to police immediately. If you’re not in a position to report it, take note of the clothing the offender is wearing and your location and report it as soon as possible. This kind of information provided to police assists with the investigation.”

“In some instances people might take a photo of the offender, however as the situation is unpredictable and we do not encourage anyone to put themselves in a position where they could be harmed or hurt,” said Det Snr Sgt Blackwell

Anyone with information which may assist with police investigations is urged to contact police on 131 444 or report it anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 and reference PROMIS number 9287350.
