A road train driver was rescued by helicopter after his vehicle became submerged in floodwaters on Sunday.
The 48-year-old driver told police he was returning to Mt Isa along the Tablelands Highway after making a delivery to the McArthur River Mine on Sunday. His road train became submerged about 9am as he drove through Creswell Creek at the intersection of the Tablelands Highway and the Barkly Stock Route.
The driver was rescued from his flooded truck by a muster helicopter from Walhollow Station. The driver told police the pilot landed the helicopter on the top of one of the shipping containers on the road train to rescue him. He was then taken to Anthony's Lagoon. The road train remains in situ until it can be retrieved when flood waters recede.
