Members from the Commander's Tactical Team arrested a man yesterday in relation to stealing and traffic offences.
On 6 January around 8.30 pm, it is alleged the man and a co-offender stole an unlocked Holden Commodore station wagon with the keys in the ignition from a property in Fannie Bay.
The offenders were observed by the 40-year-old male owner who was travelling along Bagot Road. When he signalled for them to pull over they crashed into a curb at the intersection of Snell and Bishop Street in Winnellie. The pair fled from the scene on foot with the driver suffering a laceration to his arm.
The owner of the vehicle provided a good description of the offenders to police who located and apprehended a 27-year-old man a short time later.
It is also alleged the man had broken into Adult World in Damaso Place in the city on 27 September last year stealing a number of items.
He has been charged with:
Drive a motor vehicle while unlicenced
Unlawfully use a motor vehicle
Enter a building at night with intent
Stealing property from a shop
The man is due to appear in the Darwin Magistrate's Court on 3 February.
Police are continuing their investigations to locate the co-offender and urge members of the public to contact them if they have any information on 131 444.
