Police

Around 3.00 am this morning a member of the public notified police that a Toyota Land Cruiser station wagon from Bargain Wholesalers car yard in Stuart Park was being interfered with by three males of Aboriginal appearance.

It is alleged the offenders drove the car over the chain fence damaging a pole as they left the area.

At approximately 3.30 am this morning members received another report which fitted the description of the stolen vehicle. The Toyota was allegedly seen performing doughnuts in Knuckey Camp at Knuckey Lagoon. Members attended and on arrival seized the vehicle.

Enquiries are continuing to locate the three offenders and anyone with information in relation to this incident is urged to call police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

In another overnight incident at Knuckeys Lagoon Aboriginal Camp, Palmerston police patrolling the Camp at about 3.15am pulled over a vehicle driven by a 28-year-old male. The man underwent a breath analysis test which returned a reading of .178 percent and it was later revealed he was driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle.

He has been charged with:

Drive unregistered motor vehicle

Drive high range blood alcohol content

Drive uninsured motor vehicle

The man was bailed to appear in the Darwin Magistrate's Court on the 3rd of February 2009.
