Three people have been charged following an assault on a police officer near Alice Springs on Tuesday.

The three were among a group of five people who allegedly assaulted a police officer and stole a police car on Tuesday night. All five were arrested the following day.

A 21-year-old man has been charged with aggravated assault of a police officer, stealing, robbery and aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

A 23-year-old woman has been charged with robbery and aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and a 32-year-old woman has been charged with robbery, aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle and providing a false name.

All three have been refused bail and will appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court today.

A 17-year-old female has been released to be considered for juvenile diversion and a 23-year-old man is still being interviewed.
