At approximately 8:00 pm last night police and St John Ambulance members attended a residence in Gray after receiving reports of an assault.
Members arrived at the Cornwallis Circuit residence where it is believed that an altercation occurred between a 48-year-old male and a 43-year-old female, resulting in the male sustaining a single stab wound to the chest.
He was conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital to receive treatment.
The 43-year-old female was taken to the Darwin Watch House where she remains in police custody.
Charges are expected to be laid later today.
