Drugs seized–Alice Springs

Police have seized more than $107,000 worth of cannabis following the execution of a number of search warrants in Alice Spring s on Friday.

Police from the Drug Intelligence Unit, the Dog Operations Unit and the Substance Abuse Intelligence Desk were involved in the operation which resulted in the arrest of a 46-year-old man and seizure of almost 4.3 kilograms of cannabis and $16,000 in cash.

Police pulled over the driver of a Ford Falcon sedan which was travelling outbound along Larapinta Drive just after 2pm on Friday. A search of the vehicle located 336.5 grams of cannabis in 12 bags along with $3,750 in cash.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested and two subsequent searches of Alice Springs properties resulted in further seizures.

During a search of an Undoolya Road unit police recovered 872.6 grams of cannabis and $12,000 in cash. A search of an industrial premises in Smith Street resulted in the seizure of 3.080 grams of cannabis and a .177 calibre air rifle.

The man has been charged with :

Possess cannabis -commercial quantity
Supply cannabis
Possess tainted property
Possess unregistered firearm
Possess unlicensed firearm
Fail to secure firearm.

He was refused bail and will appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court today.
