A 20-year-old man has been charged in relation to an incident that occurred on a bus on Tuesday night at approximately 9.00 pm.

It is alleged that a 57-year-old male was driving a bus along Parap Road when he stopped and was approached by a male boarding the bus.

The male produced a large knife and demanded money from the driver, before fleeing the vehicle and running down the street. The incident was later reported to police.

The man has been charged with:

Assault with intent to steal armed with a weapon
Aggravated assault
Going armed in public
Possess/use/carry controlled weapon
Disorderly behaviour

He was remanded in custody to appear in the Darwin Magistrate's Court today.
