Police from Avon Downs seized more than 200 cannabis plants growing inside a caravan which was pulled over near the Queensland border yesterday afternoon.
Police from Avon Downs in the Northern Territory and Camooweal in Queensland were conducting a combined traffic campaign near the border when they came across the caravan parked at a rest area. The caravan was found to be unroadworthy, with no brakes, no rear lights, no safety chain and a damaged passenger rear wheel.
Northern Territory police, accompanied by Queensland police from Camooweal, searched the caravan and seized 200 Cannabis plants which were in 25 pots as well as two cartons of beer, a bottle of gin and a .22 magnum lever action rifle and ammunition. A Holden Commodore sedan was also seized.
Police allege the caravan was being towed to the prescribed Aboriginal community of Wunarra, 100 kilometres west of Avon Downs.
A 43-year-old man was arrested and is expected to be charged later today.
