Disturbance – Aileron

Police

Licensees at two roadhouses in Central Australia voluntarily stopped selling liquor following a large disturbance near Aileron at the weekend.

Police received a report that several fights had broken out between two families in the drinking area two kilometers south of Aileron on Friday night.

Ti Tree Police Sergeant Justin Harbour said police were told the fighting was likely to accelerate on Saturday so licensees at Ti Tree and Aileron were asked to voluntarily stop the sale of alcohol, which they agreed to do.

Police from Ti Tree and Willowra attended Aileron to oversee a meeting between the two families to try to resolve the issue. As members of both families arrived at the meeting police seized up to 30 weapons including knives, boomerangs, axes and iron bars.

Following almost an hour of negotiations between representatives of the two families the dispute was resolved and all parties returned to their respective communities.

Sgt Harbour said Police would continue to monitor the situation and would also like to thank the Licensees for their assistance in preventing the situation from escalating.
