Missing Man Daly River - Update

Police

Police resumed searching for a 20-year-old man that went missing whilst swimming in the Daly River at approximately 2:00 am yesterday.

Members from the Territory Response Section attended the scene and conducted ground and waters searches all day assisted by Parks and Wildlife Service rangers from their crocodile management team, the searches ceased at about 9:30 am this morning.

Police have located remains approximately 80 metres upstream from where the man went missing that strongly indicate he has died from a crocodile attack. Police have destroyed a 4.3 metre crocodile they believe to be responsible for the attack.

No specifics will be given in relation to the trauma or the type of evidence located out of respect for the family.

The exclusion zone has been stood down and access to that part of the river is now open to the public.

Police once again urge all members of the public to exercise extreme caution when choosing to swim in the waterways in the top end.
