Single vehicle crash - Update #1– Alice Springs - 4278394

Police

Police are investigating a car accident which has left two men in a critical condition.

Police were conducting a routine patrol in an unmarked police vehicle around 1am on Sunday when a blue Holden Berlina traveling in the same direction, passed them at excessive speed.

The police followed the vehicle, intending to apprehend the driver for speeding, as it drove into Lovegrove Drive. Police activated their lights and sirens when they were approximately 150 metres from the vehicle.

At the same time the Holden appears to have failed to negotiate a bend and crashed.

The two male occupants in the vehicle were taken to the Alice Springs Hospital and the 20-year-old driver remains in a critical but stable condition.

The 29 year-old passenger is in a critical condition in the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

Police said speed was a factor in the accident and it is not yet known if alcohol was involved.

Investigations into the accident are continuing.
