Police

Police are urging members of the public to slow down whilst using our roads after a busy long weekend.

At approximately 11:00 am Sunday 3 May a Saab Sedan and a Landcruiser collided head on out the front of the Hayes Creek Inn on the Stuart Highway, resulting in the 54-year-old female passenger of the Saab sustaining suspected spinal injuries.

She was medivaced to Royal Darwin Hospital to receive treatment.

All three of the other people involved in the crash also attended the hospital for minor injuries.

An investigation into the exact cause of the crash is continuing however at this stage it is believed that alcohol was not a factor.

At approximately 5:00 pm on Sunday Police were called out to two separate vehicle rollovers in the Gunn Point area.

It is alleged that a 21-year-old male driver lost vision on the dirt road, causing him to lose control of his Mitsubishi Lancer and roll.

His 20-year-old male passenger was conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital with suspected spinal injuries.

The second incident occurred shortly after, as it was alleged that the 24-year-old driver of a dune buggy rolled along Gunn Point Beach as he tried to execute a sharp turn.

The driver of the vehicle was later transported to the hospital as he sustained a possible broken arm and lacerations to his face.

Territory Duty Superintendent Rob Farmer said that it had been a busy weekend on the roads for police.

"The last few days have demonstrated that drivers cannot afford to become complacent and must exercise caution when travelling on all roads throughout the Territory, dirt tracks in particular can be quite dangerous due to the surface condition and the often limited visibility" he said.
