Assaults – Alice Springs

Police

Police are investigating an assault which has left a woman with serious injuries in the Alice Springs Hospital.

The 23-year-old woman was medivaced from the Utopia outstation to the Alice Springs Hospital overnight after injuries from an earlier assault worsened.

Police received reports yesterday that the woman was with a group of people at the community when a 16-year-old male suddenly became angry and struck the woman to the right leg and back with a shovel.

The woman was medivaced to Alice Springs Hospital after her injuries became infected.

Arlparra police officers are yet to locate the teenager.

Meanwhile police arrested a 45-year-old man at Karnte Camp in Alice Springs after he allegedly assaulted his wife.

Police allege that the man assaulted his wife in the early hours of yesterday morning by biting her on the cheek and dragging her by the hair.

He also allegedly kicked and punched her and pushed her head against a brick wall.

He was arrested and charged with breaching a domestic violence order and aggravated assault.

He was refused bail and appeared in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court yesterday.
