Fatal – Alice Springs

Police

Alice Springs Police are investigating a fatal rollover that killed 42-year-old man last night.

At approximately 8:00 pm it is alleged that the male was driving a Toyota Landcruiser on the Stuart Highway, 2km North of the Finke Bridge, when he lost control of the vehicle, causing it to roll several times.

Police and St John Ambulance members attended, however the male was declared deceased at the scene, having been thrown from the vehicle.

One side of the Stuart Highway remained closed for several hours as members worked at the scene.

An investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash and the surrounding circumstances is continuing, however at this stage it is believed that speed may have been a contributing factor.

This now brings the Northern Territory Road Toll for 2009 to nine compared to 20 for the same period last year.
