Assault– Alice Springs

Police

A 36-year-old woman was taken to Alice Springs Hospital with facial injuries after being assaulted with a guitar.

The woman was walking with a 41-year-old man in the Todd River when an argument broke out between them just before 1am on Saturday.

It appears the 41-year-old man became angry and allegedly physically assaulted the woman by punching and kicking her and then began hitting her with his guitar.

Police and St John Ambulance were called and the woman was taken to the Alice Springs Hospital.

The man was arrested a short time later and refused bail. He has been charged with unlawfully causing serious harm and being armed with an offensive weapon and will appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court today.

The woman received head and facial injuries and will be discharged from hospital today.
