Vehicle interferences on the rise – Alice Springs

Police

A spate of vehicle interferences has prompted a police warning to the public in Alice Springs.

Overnight two vehicles have had their windows smashed at the Flynn Drive Health Centre and earlier this week offenders smashed the windows of two vehicles parked on Hayes Street stealing more than $3000 worth of property.

Acting Sergeant Janelle Snigg from the Property Crime Reduction Unit said the numbers of vehicle interferences were up compared to this time last year.

"We've noticed the increase in vehicle interferences and criminal damage to vehicles.

"We're advising the public not to keep their valuable personal items in their vehicles when it is unattended."

"It is important for visitors to Alice Springs who are driving to keep their essential paperwork on them such as passports, identification and money."

Acting Sergeant Snigg said it was a timely reminder to those who leave their vehicles unlocked and unattended when at work or at home.

"There have been a number of cases of people leaving valuable items in cars and subsequently those items were stolen."

"We're encouraging people not to make it easy for opportunistic offenders."
