Arrest for assault – Alice Springs

Police have arrested a teenager for the assault and robbery a taxi driver in Alice Springs.

Police received the report on Friday 8 May just after 10pm of an alleged assault and robbery of a taxi driver on Head Street.

The victim told police he had picked up seven teenagers and was dropping them off at the back of Sammy's Pizza on Head Street when one of the teenagers punched him in the face.

Another teenager hit the front of the vehicle with a pole, causing minor damage while another offender stole $70 in cash from the driver's coin dispenser.

The 15-year-old male has been remanded in custody and charged with robbery and will appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court today.

Police investigations into the robbery continue.
