Police

A man who fell asleep in his vehicle at the front of a fuel station at the weekend has been arrested for drink driving by Police.

Police were called at 5am yesterday to check on the welfare of the man who was asleep at the wheel of his vehicle at a fuel station on the North Stuart Highway.

It appears the 35-year-old man had passed out at the wheel of his vehicle, with the engine running next to a fuel bowser.

Police arrived and managed to wake the man who recorded a blood alcohol level of 0.089 per cent and was taken to the Alice Springs Watch House

The man will appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court next month.

Police conducted random breath testing during the weekend testing more than 75 people, three of which were taken into custody and charged with drink driving.

A 24-year-old man recorded the highest blood level for the weekend with a reading of 0.207 per cent.

The man will appear in court early next month for driving under the influence of liquor, driving whilst disqualified and driving a motor vehicle while unlicensed.
