Armed robbery - Darwin

Police

Police are investigating an armed robbery which occurred at the Cavenagh Hotel bottle shop In Darwin last night.

Police received a report just after 8.15pm that a man armed with a knife threatened the 54-year-old male attendant and demanded money.

The victim opened the cash register and the offender grabbed approximately $500 in cash and fled.

Two German tourists were being served when the offender ran into the bottle shop and behind the counter and threatened the attendant with a 25cm black-handled kitchen knife. They told police the offender ran towards Litchfield Court and turned right into Knuckey Street.

He is described as being a Caucasian male with a thick- set build and approximately 180cm tall. He was wearing what appears to be a black or grey t-shirt tied around his head covering his face, a long-sleeved black shirt, black gloves and three-quarter length black shorts and brown lace-up shoes.

Police are appealing to members of the public who witnessed the man running from the scene to come forward.
