Arrest for disturbance - Darwin

A man was arrested following a large disturbance in the Darwin CBD overnight.

Police received a report just before 4.30am this morning of a group of up to 50 people arguing and causing a disturbance at the BP Service Station in Smith Street.

When police arrived to disperse the crowd they attempted to take a 21-year-old man into custody. The man was apprehended and placed in the caged section of a police vehicle however managed to escape after kicking and breaking the lock on the cage.

The man was again apprehended and taken into custody. He is expected to be charged later today.
