Police are investigating a stealing with violence incident that occurred in Darwin City early this morning.

It is alleged that a 20-year-old male was walking along Smith Street near the BP Service Station at approximately 12:40 am when he was approached from behind and struck to the head.

It is believed the victim was struck several times before the two male offenders fled the scene with his wallet and mobile phone.

A passer-by assisted the male, providing a mobile phone to contact police.

Members searched the surrounding areas however were unable to locate the offenders.

Police are urging anyone that may have witnessed the event, or who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area, to contact them on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
