A 46-year-old man is in Hospital after being seriously assaulted in Alice Springs overnight.

Police received a report just after 1.30am of persons fighting in the area.
Upon police arrival a man was found lying unconscious on the road in Cycad place.

It appears the man had been seriously assaulted with injuries to the head and face.

Police contacted St John Ambulance who conveyed the man to the Alice Springs Hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

Two people are in custody, however enquiries investigations are continuing.

Police are calling for persons in the area of Cycad place who may have witnessed the incident, which is believed to have occurred around 1.30am today.
