Police

A woman has been arrested for driving with a blood alcohol level five times the legal limit in Alice Springs.

An Alice Springs Southern Traffic Operations unit noticed a car speeding on Larapinta Drive just after 9.30am today.

Police apprehended and breath-tested the driver who returned a positive reading of 0.203 per cent blood alcohol.

The woman was taken to the Alice Springs Watch House where she was charged with:

Driving with a high range blood alcohol content
Exceeding speed limit 124km in a 110km zone
Fail to cancel signal

The woman will appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court on Thursday 16 July.

Alice Springs Police watch commander Darrel Kerr said the number of drink drivers was concerning.

"Police arrested three high range drink drivers last night, said Watch commander Kerr

"People are constantly reminded of the danger they pose not just to themselves but to others when they drink drive.

"We urge people who are going out for a couple of drinks to ensure they have a designated sober driver.

"A sober driver is not the person who has had the least to drink but the person who has not consumed any alcohol or any illegal substances rendering them unsafe to drive.

"Drink drivers be aware, if you do drink and drive there is a good chance you will be caught."
