Police apprehended four youths aged 9, 10, 13 and 14-years-old last night in relation to the theft of a vehicle from Mindil Beach.
It is alleged that between 7:00 and 9:00 pm the youths stole a Toyota Corona station wagon from the car park at the Mindil Beach Markets.
Police received a call shortly after 11:00 pm from a member of the public reporting a group of youths acting suspiciously in Cullen Bay. General Duties and Youth Crime Unit members attended the location and pursued the stolen vehicle before apprehending the offenders on Smith Street in Darwin City.
The 14-year-old driver jumped out of the moving vehicle causing it to collide with a power pole resulting in front end damage.
Three of the offenders were taken home to their parents who will be interviewed at a later date and the 14-year-old male remains in police custody he will be interviewed by members of the Youth Crime Unit today.
Duty Superintendent Bob Harrison said "this is a good example of police working with the public to get juveniles of the streets".
