Fatal – Coomalie Creek Bridge - 4338617

Police are investigating the fatal crash that occurred near the Coomalie Creek Bridge this morning in which a 59-year-old male died.

Police received reports at approximately 7:00 am that a BMW motorcycle and a car had collided head on along the Stuart Highway, resulting in the male being killed.

It is alleged that the 59-year-old was travelling North along the Stuart Highway occupying the South bound lane, and collided with the Toyota Camry that was travelling South.

Members from Adelaide River, Accident Investigation Unit and St John Ambulance attended the scene and conveyed the four female passengers in the Toyota Camry aged 24, 26, 58 and 87 to Royal Darwin Hospital to receive treatment for minor injuries.

Investigations into the exact cause of the crash are ongoing.

This now brings the Northern Territory Road toll for 2009 to 15, compared to 37 for the same period last year.
