A 25-year-old man has died after rolling his car East of Katherine overnight.

At about 11.20 pm Katherine Police received a report of a single motor vehicle crash on Gorge Road, seven kilometres from the township.

The man died at the scene of the crash shortly after St John ambulance arrived.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the man was heading towards Katherine when he lost control of his vehicle causing it to drive off the bitumen and onto the dirt.
The man has then overcorrected causing the vehicle to roll. Gorge Road was partially closed for several hours whilst the scene was examined.

Police will examine all possible factors that could have contributed to the crash. These include alcohol, speed and road conditions. A report will be prepared for the Coroner.

The death brings the Territory road toll to 16 compared to 38 for the same period last year.
