Suspicious death – Alice Springs – 4340586

Police

Police are investigating the suspicious death of a man in Alice Springs overnight.

Police received a report just after 7.30 this morning from a member of the public who found a deceased man lying on the side of the road on Schwartz Crescent.

Witnesses told police a white duel cab Toyota had been driving in the Todd River between the Undoolya Causeway and the vicinity of St Philips College.

The vehicle then drove through two itinerant camps in the area causing a disturbance before exiting the river onto Schwartz Crescent and then heading north towards the Stuart Highway.

Witnesses told police the vehicle stopped near a man walking along the side of the road and both parties spoke to each other before the vehicle then left the area.

Shortly after the man's body was discovered on the side road on Schwartz crescent.

Police cordoned off Schwartz Crescent and traffic was diverted around the scene.

A formal identification of the deceased is yet to be made.

It is anticipated pathologists will travel to Alice Springs tomorrow to conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Due to the seriousness of the incident, police are requesting the occupants of the vehicle to contact police.

Police are also asking anyone who may have seen the vehicle or have any information about the incident to come forward.
