Alice Springs Police have arrested and charged four people during a special operation targeting drink drivers last week.

The two day operation held on Thursday and Friday night with police setting up random breath testing stations near the Northside Shopping Centre, North Stuart Highway, Lyndavale Drive, Larapinta and Stott Terrace.

More than 320 people were breath tested and 108 litres tipped out by police.

Two men, aged 32 and 42-years-old returned positive readings of 0.226 and 0.182 per cent and two women both aged 33-years-old returned positive blood alcohol readings of 0.142 and 0.132 per cent.

Acting Superintendent Darrell Kerr said motorists need to be reminded that if they drink and drive they will get caught.

"Once again this highlights the fact people continue to drink drive," said Superintendent Kerr

"These people need to realise they not only put themselves at risk but the lives of other road users at risk.

"It will not be tolerated by police.

"Police will continue to use marked and unmarked vehicles to target this sort of irresponsible behaviour."

The four arrested were taken to the Alice Springs watch house where they were charged and will appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court on drink driving offences.
