Business break ins – Alice Springs

Police

Alice Springs Police are investigating a number of unlawful entries on businesses at the weekend.

Nine businesses in the Alice Springs CBD were targeted by offenders with valuable items such as laptops and cash being stolen.

Acting Sergeant Janelle Snigg from the Alice Springs Police Property Crime Reduction Unit urged business owners to ensure all cash is either locked in a safe or taken off the premises after hours.

"These offenders are targeting easy cash and any valuable items that can either be sold or exchanged," said A/Sergeant Snigg

"No one can determine whether or not their business will be broken into, however we encourage businesses to make sure any cash and valuable items are secured or taken off the premises."

"Alice Springs Police Crime Prevention Unit offers assistance for businesses to try and maximize their security to prevent unlawful entries, using the Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) process.

"Businesses interested in having a CPTED done can contact the Crime Prevention Unit on 8951 5092."

Members of the Property Crime Reduction Unit arrested an 18-year-old man for the unlawful entry of a residential property in Alice Springs at the weekend.

Police received a report from the residential occupant, who returned home to find the man stealing valuable items. The man apprehended the offender and called the police.

The offender was taken to the watch house where he further admitted to unlawfully entering three other residential premises in the Gillen area throughout September.

He was charged and bailed to appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court on October 8.
