Police arrested a 49-year-old man and an 18 year-old-woman in Alyangula yesterday afternoon after they were found in possession of 271 grams of cannabis.
Police, acting on information received from members of the community, pulled over and searched the white Toyota Land cruiser as it was travelling out bound on the Rowell highway.
Sergeant Shane Arnison said it was good to see members of the community assisting Police to stop drug trafficking into the community.
"Acting on information received, police were able to stop these drugs being sold within the Community. These drugs if sold at street level within Groote Eylandt are worth around $27,100." he said.
Both the man and the woman were charged with:
Possessing cannabis trafficable quantity
Unlawfully supply cannabis to another.
They have been bailed to appear in Alyangula court on the 20th of October.
