Operation RAID results – Alice Springs

Police

Thousands of drivers were breath tested in and around Alice Springs during the recently completed Operation RAID (Remove All Impaired Drivers).

The Nationwide Operation was launched on November 20 and ran through to December 12. In the Alice Springs region during the course of the Operation, Police breath tested 4330 drivers, with 187 found to be driving over the limit. Of these, 78 drivers exceeded .15 per cent.

Police also issued 292 traffic infringement notices for offences ranging from failing to wear seatbelts (81) and speeding (74).

Acting Commander Lance Godwin said the results of the Operation were disappointing .

"While this campaign certainly went a long way to apprehending offending drivers, it's still very disappointing that we, in fact, did detect so many, especially in light of the many high profile road safety education campaign we've already run this year.

"It's high time drivers understood, if they flout the law they will be caught."
