Unlawful Entry – Malak – 4437207

Police

A 34-year-old male has been arrested and charged following numerous unlawful entry offences at two Caravan Parks in Malak last week.

It is alleged that at approximately 3:30am on Wednesday 23 December, the male unlawfully entered a caravan site at Malak Caravan Park and stole a Samsung LCD television. He then allegedly entered a double-decker bus occupying a separate site and stole property including a handbag, purse and mobile phone.

Police allege that the male then travelled next door to the KOA Caravan Park where he unlawfully entered a third caravan site. A 27-year-old male sleeping at the site was woken, confronted the offender and an altercation between the two men broke out before the offender ran away.

During the altercation the 34-year-old male dropped a number of items including stolen property and his wallet containing his identification.

The male was arrested and charged the following day and has been remanded in custody to appear in the Darwin Magistrate Court today.

Sergeant Andy Bedwell from the Commanders Tactical Team said that the nerve of the alleged offender was unusual, and although police do not usually encourage victims to confront offenders in these circumstances, he praised the efforts of the 27-year-old male in this case.

"The alleged offender returned to the site of the altercation a short time after the incident to request his wallet back; however he was chased away by the 27-year-old male who had called police".
