Incident – Litchfield National Park

Police

Police have called off the search in relation to a possible drowning incident at Litchfield National Park yesterday.

Batchelor Police received reports at approximately 4:00 pm yesterday afternoon that a body had been sighted at the bottom of the main pool.

Police and Park Rangers attended the location, however had to recommence the search this morning, due to falling light levels.

Marine and Fisheries Dive Team personnel attended this morning and thoroughly searched the pool and surrounding waterways however did not locate any body.

Territory Duty Superintendent Mike Murphy said that this was the best possible result.

"The male that reported the sighting did the right thing by reporting it to police. Some personal belongings located unattended nearby yesterday afternoon caused us some initial concern, however the owner of that property was located this morning safe and well".

"The NT Police have a specialised, highly resourced and well trained dive team to deal with situations like these.

"I would like to thank all members involved, including Park Rangers, for their assistance" he said.
