Females charged for assault on taxi driver

Casuarina Detectives have arrested and charged a 20-year-old and a 31-year-old female in relation to an assault on a taxi driver that occurred on Friday 8 January 2010.

It is alleged that at approximately 11pm that evening, the two females threatened a 26-year-old male taxi driver with a knife and demanded cash.

An altercation occurred during which the driver sustained lacerations to his right hand and face, before the females fled the scene.

Last night police executed a search warrant on a residence in Karama where they subsequently arrested the two females.

They were conveyed to the Darwin Watch House and charged with;

- Attempted aggravated robbery whilst armed
- Aggravated assault causing harm
- Threats to kill

The 31-year-old was remanded to appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court today whilst the 20-year-old was bailed to appear on 4 February.
