Single vehicle roll over – Noonamah - 4470976

Police

Police received a report at approximately 10:40pm last night of a single vehicle roll over on the Stuart Highway in Noonamah.

On arrival, members observed a silver Toyota Hilux utility resting on its side blocking the inbound lane of the Highway and various debris littering the road.

It is believed that the 20-year-old male driver was distracted by his mobile phone when his vehicle left the bitumen and he lost control causing it to roll over onto its side and slide.

The male was able to extract himself from the vehicle and was treated on the scene by St John Ambulance before being transported to the Royal Darwin Hospital for observation.

Duty Superintendent Dean Maloney noted that this was a serious accident the outcome of which could have been far worse.

"This just demonstrates the need for all drivers to give their full attention to their driving and how a simple distraction can have a devastating effect".

"In this case the driver was extremely lucky", he said.
