Crash of stolen vehicle – Youth apprehended

A 14-year-old male youth is in police custody after crashing a stolen vehicle on Bagot Road early this morning.

It is alleged the youth, who had been staying at a residence in Wanguri, threatened the residents with a weapon before stealing a vehicle and fleeing the scene.

He was later travelling inbound along Bagot Road in the stolen Toyota Avensis station wagon when he lost control of the vehicle, crashing it into a light pole at approximately 12:30 am.

The youth fled the scene on foot however was apprehended a short time later at a bus stop on Bagot Road.

He was conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital as a precaution and will be summonsed to appear in the Darwin Youth Justice Court at a later date to face charges, including:

Robbery while armed
Unlawful use of a motor vehicle
Assault a person
Leave the scene of an accident.
