Armed Person - Palmerston

Police have arrested a 47-year-old man after he was located armed with a weapon in Palmerston.

Today at 11:50am members monitoring CCTV footage of the Palmerston area observed a male waving a knife around near the Palmerston water tower and notified near by mobile police.

Casuarina members attended the Palmerston water tower and arrested the man who was in possession of a kitchen knife with a 10cm blade. He has been charged with possess and carry a controlled weapon.

Duty Superintendent Bruce Porter says "CCTV is an extremely useful tool in apprehending offenders before they commit serious crimes. This certainly has been demonstrated in this instance".

"It is unknown what the intentions of the male were having been armed however his arrest has certainly averted any possible further offence that may have been committed."
