Major Crime Unit Detectives are investigating the shooting of a 38 year old male in the Winnellie area at about 6:00am yesterday morning.

The victim's 80 year old father in-law has been arrested in relation to the incident and will be interviewed later today.

The victim remains in a stable condition receiving medical treatment at Royal Darwin Hospital.

Detective Acting Sergeant Joedy Kitchen said police are seeking witnesses who may have further information about the incident.

"Anyone who may have heard noises, seen someone or observed a white sedan in the Winnellie area or the vicinity of the Darwin Show Grounds at the time of the incident are urged to contact police on 131 444" she said.
