Drink driving duo arrested - Karama

Police

A 32-year-old female and a 34-year-old male have been arrested for drink driving after being apprehended by police early this morning.

Police patrolling the Karama area conducted a random breath test on a 32-year-old woman at approximately 2:45 am, resulting in her returning a blood alcohol content reading of .174 percent.

At the time of the offence, four passengers including the woman's husband and five-year-old son were in the vehicle.

Members secured the Honda Accord on Dorrigo Crescent as all occupants commenced walking to a nearby residence.

Approximately 10 minutes later, police conducted another patrol of the area and witnessed the woman's 34-year-old husband driving the car.

He later returned a blood alcohol content of .175 percent.

He has been charged with high range drink driving, drive whilst unlicensed and drive with a young person unsecured in a vehicle.

The 32-year-old woman has since been charged with drive high range blood alcohol content, drive a motor vehicle while unlicensed, driver give false information and was bailed to appear in the Darwin Magistrate's Court at a later date.

Territory Duty Superintendent Dean Moloney said that this was a tragedy waiting to happen.

"One person drink driving and risking their own lives is one thing, but having numerous people in the car, including your unrestrained child, is just senseless and asking for trouble.

"It was due to good police work that a tragedy was avoided" he said.
