Police officer injured – Ali Curung

A police officer was injured as he tried to break up a fight in Ali Curung overnight.

Police were called to a large disturbance in Jungala Street, Ali Curung about 10.30pm last night. After dispersing the crowd of approximately 20 people police continued to patrol the community before returning to the area and finding the fighting had resumed.

Police entered a house to talk to some of the participants, but were set upon by about eight people in one of the bedrooms. During the altercation one of the two police officers was injured when he was hit in the face with a crockery dinner plate. The police officer was taken to Tennant Creek Hospital where he was treated for a large laceration to his upper lip which required stitches.

Investigations into the incident are continuing.
